The American Baptist Churches of Maine is a gathering of local churches in eleven associations.  Each association defines a unique mission area within our state.  The American Baptist Churches of Maine affirms the associational principle which seeks to strengthen the mission of local churches by partnering with other congregations within their region.

Each church is autonomous and dependent.  It is self-governing in the sense that its mission in its community should conform to the needs of that particular locale.  We are dependent because our overall charge is to take the same gospel to the ends of the earth.

The representatives of each Association on the ABCOM Board work to solidify the vision of advancing the cause of our Divine Redeemer throughout the state, aiding the churches within each association in making it a reality.  A tangible connection from association to association would not be possible without representatives from each area meeting together, sharing wisdom and knowledge in order to help shape and apply our vision statewide.

The American Baptist Churches of Maine belong to a larger body called American Baptist Churches USA with which we partner to broaden our scope, confirming that although the churches are many, the church is one.

Our Region’s priority is to affirm, support, and challenge congregations as they live out their mission “in Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8 NIV)
